We are Baby Boomers. Wikipedia defines baby boomers as:
“The United States Census Bureau considers a baby boomer to be someone born during the demographic birth boom between 1946 and 1964. The Census Bureau is not involved in defining cultural generations.”
Well, we can define the cultural generation, see if you agree:
Those of us who busted our butts working several jobs, often simultaneously, continuing to gather certifications and degrees or expertise in our field of study. Our knowledge will forever be lost when we retire. We know how to do things without computers.
We know what the sting of “Right sizing” feels like. We never felt a sense of entitlement. We worked long hours, made money and many of us now lost signifcant dollars in our retirement accounts and the value of our houses. We raised families, worked to give them what we didn’t have and we are tired.
We keep moving at a faster pace, in search of more. It’s time for our generation to reevaluate life before it’s too late.
Joe and I spent much of our careers on planes flying to meetings and in hotels for long periods of time. When we were making money for Corporate America, no one worried about travel expenses. Before video conferencing and long before Skpe, we shook hands and made deals over martini’s and cigars.
So quite frankly, the last thing I want to do is get on a post 9/11 flight and stay in a hotel, sleeping with one eye open making sure bed bugs don’t jump on me.
(I would freak out. Seriously freak out…screaming, jumping and doing the “Flashdance” run in place while scalding myself with hot water in a sterilization process…and I wouldn’t look like Jennifer Beil.)
So we have established that we feel mentally and physically tired, we don’t like planes and hotels and now for the biggie…we want to take our dogs with us when we travel. We need to slow down and nourish our souls. We want to be free…WE WANT AN RV!!!!
Join us on our journey as we pursue our dream of hitting the open road.
We are in the process of learning everything there is to know about RV’s including, driving, mechanics, maintenance, destinations, cooking, traveling with pets, insurance and budgeting. As Joe said to me just today, no one ever looks unhappy driving their RV. They have “EEEE” face. (Look in the mirror smile and say “EEEE”. Congratulations, you have “EEEE” face.) We now take pictures of RVs when we see them.
The next stop in our RV Journey is the Hershey, PA RV Show.
We are greatful for all of the expertise some of our “RV” friends have shared with us. Please give us a shout and let us know if you can relate to anything in this post. We would appreciate it. We discuss more in our community, which we would love to have you join, just see the link to the right.
