The Jersey Shore, Post MTV, Hurricane Sandy and a Massive Fire
Synonyms with THE Jersey Shore is the town of Seaside Heights, made famous by MTV’s Jersey Shore TV Show.
These past few years have been rough ones down in this area of the shore. First, The Jersey Shore Show was cancelled. When the show was filming, the Seaside area was packed with tourists and fans. Often causing traffic jams and closing streets, but bringing dollars into town. Then Sandy came and ripped up much of the boardwalk, houses and businesses. Just as the boardwalk was completed for the summer of 2013, a massive fire burned the Funtown Pier down and took businesses and dreams with it.
We took a drive down to Seaside to get a first hand account of what things look like now.
Much clearing has taken place and only sand dunes remain. It’s hard to believe that giant piers filled with rides, concession stands and tons of families making memories stood there only a few months prior. Nature has a way of reclaiming what belongs to her.
Now some popular MTV sites. First the Jersey Shore house.
Luckily, a map to the Jersey Shore Store is located right on the house in the upper left hand corner, on the deck, in case one needs to purchase Jersey Shore gear whilst one visits.
Maybe while you are visiting, you will need to make an ATM withdrawal or refresh yourself with a cold soda? Both are available on site.
Right next door is pregnant Snooki’s house from the last season.
And last but not least, the famous night club, Karma. It looks so glam on TV, but sits across from a construction site and doesn’t sparkle much in the winter.
In general, the Jersey Shore loses it’s sparkle in the winter. But trust us, come May 1, the shutters start to roll up and by Memorial Day Weekend, all is a-glow at the Jersey Shore.
