Sea lion blinded by gun shot to the head, finds new home

You have heard us say on our Pets Teach Us So Much Radio Show, “For the most part, we like animals better than people.”

The story below is one of the reasons why.

An innocent sea lion was found on Swede’s Beach in Sausalito, CA during Christmas time December with a shot gun wound to his head.  He is now blind.

The sea lion, “Silent Knight”, a 350 lb. male, was rehabbed by the Marine Mammal Center and the San Francisco Zoo.  He now lives is a new spiffy habitat with another blind sea lion at the San Fransisco Zoo.

The Mammal Center stated that there were 9 gun shot injuries to sea lions last year.  Fisherman compete with sea lions for fish and fisherman are believed to be the cause of the sea lion injuries.  Sea lions are protected under the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act, passed in 1972.  It is a crime to disturb sea mammals.
