CRANSTON, R.I. (NBC) — Rhode Island firefighters rushed to the rescue of a dog that had fallen through the ice on a partially frozen Cranston pond Wednesday.

The dog had apparently fallen through the ice and could not get out.

The dog’s owner was not present at the time of the rescue.

The cold and scared canine was taken to a local veterinarian to be examined.

He will be placed in the care of Cranston Animal Control until his owner can be found.
