Economic Times Impact Senior Dogs.
But there is an alternative. It is senseless for this tragedy to occur with our economy so many senior dogs are also suffering and feeling the effect. Any little bit would help.
In the last week MPR has received 3 requests to take very senior min pins because their owners have been laid off and cannot afford dog food.
First and sadly, it is nearly impossible to place senior dogs. MPR volunteers, collectively, over the years have been supporting anywhere from 20 to 50 of these dogs placed in our seniors for seniors program for years, where we put dogs whose owners have died with seniors on fixed incomes who need companionship but cannot afford the expense of having a dog. It is a wonderful program for dogs whose owners have died, or gone into nursing homes.
But the trauma of a senior dog leaving it's still living owner is enormous. They know the owner is alive, and they know they have been rejected, and they are depressed for the rest of their lives. As much as we struggle, and risk our own financial security to save these dogs, we have learned that it is far kinder for the original owner to hold them and say goodbye while they are first given a very large dose of valium, and then PTS.
But there is an alternative. It is senseless for this tragedy to occur during temporary economic hard times, when there are people who have been less hard hit by others, and can afford to help by donating $20.00 a month to care for a dog during this economic downturn. It will prevent multiple tragedies on many levels, and we can show that we are truly or brother's --- or at least their companion's --- keeper.
If you would like to donate and help a senior on a fixed income this is a wonderful program that MPR came up with to help keep the senior dogs from having to be put to sleep and helps out a senior human to have companionship as well to where they both have the love that they need. If you would like to be a sister or brother or at least their companion or keeper by donating 20.00 a month to this program it would be much appreciated.
Donations can be made at www.minpin911.org and please tell them that you would like to help support the senior program.
Thank you,

Are you my new MOMMIE or POPPIE PEEP?

This girl was brought in by the same lady that dumped a senior boxer in Dec I think it was saying she had cancer and a biopsy was done and she did not.
Then she came in with this little Min Pin at a later time with the same request for the dog to be euthanized because she has uncontrollable diabetes which she has been TOTALLY fine the entire time she has been at the shelter- not altered at this time- heartworm negative- age around 10 years. she is a min pin. Her name is Little Bit which they had to call the lady back because she did not care enough to put any info down on the dog.
She is looking for a foster home right now until we can find her an adopted home. If anyone can open their hearts and give her some love that she needs until she can find a forever loving home. She is currently in MS. Send inquiry to

This little girl is currently in central CA. She is young and unaltered. Look at this cute little face. Send inquiry to

A Rescue Story: Angelina

Angelina was rescued in November from a shelter where she was surrendered to be destroyed. MPR has rescued a number of special needs dogs from this shelter, and Angelina's bright attitude and determination encouraged them to call on us again. We agree she must have been a very determined girl to have been able to live, first as a baby puppy, and now.
Friends pulled her for us and she was transported to see our specialists. She is about six months old now, and weighs under five pounds. After numerous examinations, our vets believe there is nothing wrong with her except that her front legs did not develop from the "elbows" down. She had to struggle on her own to move around, and developed a seal-like gait. Our vets do not recommend surgery on her legs, but have asked us to make a sherpa vest to encourage her to use her right leg more so that she no longer uses her chest as one of her "legs". A tiny wheelchair is in the works also, and we have bought her other special equipment, such as a playpen. Lorna has made her a wonderful cushy bed which you can see on our website, on the Min Pins In Need page.
She is in a foster home where she is much loved, and which we expect to become her permanent home. Because of her extraordinary situation, she will not be adopted out until we ensure that her needs have been sorted out and met, and we can send her out to have the best life possible.
Besides the large expenditure for her special "equipment," her future needs include surgery for sterilization, and to remove her deciduous canine teeth which don't seem to want to leave on their own. Angelina is bright, happy, courageous, and worth every penny of it, but her expenses, unless sponsors can be found, lessen our ability to help other min pins.
Won't several of you become HER angels and contribute $10.00 monthly to provide for her continuing care, as well as make up for monies already expended? It would also fill a great need if you could buy baby bed-sized comforters at your thrift store for her play pen and mail them to her.
From our Min. Pin. Gang:
I have an update on Angelina and she is in need of sponsor's to get her the medical attention that she needs I have attached it below. Thank you for all that you are doing for us and hope it calmed down after the new year......
Angelina, she is special to us all at Miniature Pinscher Rescue! Angelina was rescued in November with two front deformed legs and cannot walk properly. She has to scoot on her front chest in order to get around. Please read her story at http://mininaturepinscherrescueoutreach.org or http://MinPin911.org/ if you click on the tab Min Pin in Need you can read all about her.
Angelina is getting to the age where she needs to be spayed, and her other medical needs tended to, along with deciduous canines that need to be removed. Her special equipment is costing about 500.00 in total, and before it is over, her projected expenses will be around $750.00, or more, depending on the Vet's final ruling on her medical needs. Right now she is in a long term foster home so MPR will have no adoption fee coming from her to help with her needs.
If we could get a pledges for sponsorship of $10.00 to $25.00 a month for as long as it is comfortable for the person who sponsors/pledges, it would really help MPR keep helping other dogs.
You can sponsor a dog by pledging to donate monthly, and then either sending it to the AR address located on the website, or via PayPal on the website,
http://MinPin911.org/
This would help this little girl so much and other dogs in need.

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know that Angelina is in need of Blankets here is want I was sent from Min Pin Rescue Outreach.
http://www.freecycle.org/
A nice group to belong to, to find a home for stuff you don't need...
and to get stuff that you do need, that someone else wants to give away, as opposed to letting it go to the landfill!
Angelina needs comforters for her day area, so she has a soft place to scoot around, rather than friction on her chest, since she can't get up off her chest for long.
Baby comforters of other thick blankets can be gotten and mailed to our AR address, to be delivered to Angelina's Foster home.
If anyone has any, or could check out Freecycle and see if you can come up with some for her, her Foster mom would be grateful!
THANKS!
Betty
