Is being the Top Dog all it’s cracked up to be?

In episode 98, in our Love Genies segment, we discussed what it means to be Top Dog. Below is a synopsis of what was discussed.  To listen to the entire conversation, tune into the episode.

Is being the Top Dog all it’s cracked up to be?

Thinking about the top dog. (Photo: whodeyfan.com)

Alpha Dog and Top Dog are two phrases we here quite often-phrases you might hear or use as part of your everyday life.

What is a top dog?  Someone who is better than someone else?  Interesting thought really…thinking “who is better than anyone else?”  So can we define that thought? Is it someone who has more skills, a better life, better looking or just more stuff?

So how do we get to the point where we may not feel good about ourselves?  Do we make unrealistic comparisons to other people around us or the people  in advertisements in magazines or television?  How do we get there?

Really, we allow ourselves to get there by allowing other things, people and events to have power over us.  We allow them to hurt us or hassle us.  We allow these things to control our minds, bodies, and emotions.

When we go through life, we tend to not become purposeful in our thoughts and actions.

Life controls us, instead of us controlling our lives.  This is a huge source of anxiety for many of us.

We have to take a breath.  We need to evaluate what is important and what is worthy of our time and our thoughts.

We need to stop feeling bad.  Stop letting the events around us cause us anxiety and give us “Augita”.  Life is short.  Too short to feel bad.  Too short to worry about what the so called “top dog” is up to.  So much of what we perceive is tempered with a huge dose of our own life experiences.

The only thing that is constant in life is change.  The perceived top dog today could below on the food chain tomorrow.  It is, what it is.

And  remember you decide what makes you happy or sad.  You decide what your attention to.  In the end, you decide how to live your life.  Just you.

Preventing disease and sadness in you and your pets

Pets Teach Us So Much Radio Show, 96, the Love Genies discussed the sadness that is preventable when you take care of yourself and your pet’s health. To listen to the full discussion, tune into the episode.

Prevention is key.

Prevention is key.

Prevention

So often we want to wrap our pets, children, friends and family in soft warm cotton and shield them from the ills of the world.

So many bad events though, are self-inflicted.

We need to do the things that keep us healthy and happy and we need to do the same for our pets.

An annual health exam, a trip to the dentist, a trip for a mammogram or colonoscopy are things we don’t want to do, but we need to do.

One of our friends is suffering terribly as she is the primary contact for her 41 year old sister who is in the hospital with several medical conditions..  Her sister did not take the advice of a Dr. 5 years ago and have her heart valves repaired.  Her health declined and problems compounded. They don’t expect her to make it through the end of the week.

Another friend has a husband who is severely diabetic.  He is hardworking and in good shape.  He just needs to check his blood levels frequently and have snacks, which he often forgets to do.  This poor woman with 2 beautiful children under 7 years old has had to, on many occasions, get her husband out of seizures and find him when he is incoherent because he is not taking care of himself.     This is another preventable situation.

Another friend passed away from colon cancer because he didn’t go to the Dr. to get checked when he obviously knew something was wrong.

It is really sad when people don’t value life.   Whether it’s their own life or their pet’s life, prevention and reality checks will keep you here, on this planet.

We are not stronger than disease.  We are not wiser than what an x-ray shows.  We need to take care of ourselves and our pets to make sure we finish our assignment, whatever it is, on this planet.

Value your health because there are no second chances.  Don’t cause unnecessary suffering to those around you because you didn’t take care of business.

We know this was a depressing post, sorry-but hopefully you make that Dr.’s apt you have been putting off.

About Jorge:

If you’re looking for that perfect hair stylist, your dog might have
beaten you to the chase. Bendersky has surpassed the expectations of dog
grooming and has positioned himself as a dog stylist, utilized by many
celebrities and socialites. As the “top dog” of groomers, he goes way
above the standard clipping, snipping and wash-up of his furry
four-legged clients. Visit his website athttp://www.planetjorge.com/.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to find Bendersky on speed dial for P. Diddy,
Ralph Lauren, Ellen Barkin and many other “A-list” dog owners. Jorge is
available at all hours for his VIP clientele and often finds himself
picking up midnight shifts for dog grooming emergencies. He truly goes
above and beyond for his clients, but of course everything comes with a
price and his services do not run cheap. Especially if it consists of a
late-night cleaning or grooming call!

Our culture has been significantly amused by dogs, apparent by the number of dog reality shows airing on a number of networks. Jorge was featured on Animal Planet’s reality show, “Groomer Has It,” in 2008 which really shifted his career into high gear. Jorge has become the go-to groomer for media outlets seeking grooming expertise presented with wit and style. His many television appearances include The Today Show, ABC Nightline, E! News, Regis and Kelly, and more.

What is now will not be forever.

As we chat in the coffee rooms of our workplaces in America, we find generally, people say things like, “ I haven’t hit the lottery yet or I certainly wouldn’t be here”.  No one really ever seems to be happy until Friday.  Then the weekend passes way to quick and we are back at work with the Monday blues.

So, this is all very temporary.  These things that surround us.  The only thing that is certain is change.  The boss you don’t like will leave or his boss will leave and the new guy will fire him.  Your best friend will move either closer or farther away.  Your car will get fixed.  Everything is in a constant state of change.

Sometimes we get fixated on the end game.  What is the big goal?  We ask ourselves questions like, why can’t I be rich?  Why can’t I find a better job?  Why can’t I afford the house I want?

Why do we always ask why?  Sometimes we don’t understand.  It’s hard to understand what the plan is for us.  Whatever it is, we need to accept what the plan.  It is a  fantastic journey…
