Dog Toothbrush Giveaway, Zututh!

Zututh

Zututh

A new kind of tooth brush for dogs!

ZUTUTH, LLC is a company dedicated to improving the oral hygiene of dogs. We create assistive oral hygiene devices for the veterinary market. Periodontal disease has been determined to be the most prevalent chronic disease of dogs. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, it is estimated that 80% of dogs have periodontal disease by the age of two. The main reason is that oral hygiene is not performed on dogs on a routine basis. Certain breeds may have increased risk due to other reasons (greyhound muzzle).
Oral infections have been shown to contribute to chronic inflammatory conditions effecting the heart, kidneys and circulatory and immune systems. Daily tooth brushing reduces plaque and gum disease thereby reducing the risk of decay and infections.

ZUTUTH, LLC strives to make daily tooth brushing easier and more effective. ZUTUTH is game-changer for two major reasons: first, it is the only toothbrush designed specifically for dogs and second, it represents the new thinking in regards to home petcare.

The ZUTUTH toothbrush is designed with a dog’s mouth as a template. As in humans, plaque accumulates on the surfaces of the dog’s teeth through deposit of salivary components.  This plaque is rich in bacteria, which utilize the sugars in the diet to create acids. The acids dissolve the enamel on the teeth creating decay.  The area that is most effected is the backmost upper teeth near the salivary glands.  The upper molars are the most important teeth in chewing and breaking up foods.

However, the upper back teeth of most breeds are inset in relation to the front teeth.  This makes access to these teeth very difficult with a standard tooth brush.  Zututh’s patent-pending design works with the dog’s anatomy so that these teeth can be cleaned properly.

Also, ZUTUTH is designed to reach the upper back teeth and the teeth in front of them in one motion.  With more teeth being cleaned at once that reduces the time needed to do an effective job.

Home oral care for dogs is not the same as for humans.  We try to clean all surfaces of our own teeth every time we brush.  For dogs, some tooth surfaces, like the tongue sides are self cleansing, and plaque normally is not as much of a problem for the front teeth. The new thinking is that the first areas to brush are the upper back teeth followed by the front teeth.  If the dog allows it, then clean all surfaces of the teeth.

The handle is angled away from the dog’s mouth to allow the user to remain clean and comfortable and to reduce the chances of the user’s hand being bitten.

With the new and unique design of ZUTUTH, word will spread that pet owners need not be afraid to brush their dog’s teeth. ZUTUTH makes it easy to brush, and gets to the areas normally not reachable by the products on the market today.  Along with user-friendly instructions, ZUTUTH will inspire confidence in home pet oral care and will save money in veterinary dental bills.

Nice out? We need your opinion on pets in cars.

Dogs in a car with rolled up windows

Dogs in a car with rolled up windows

A reader sent us the email below.  If you have listened to some of our radio shows, you may know how we feel about this topic, but we wanted your opinion.  What would you have done if you were faced with the following situation:
I live in Chicago, where the temperature is currently  70  and sunny. Today, while driving to school, I noticed that although it felt nice and cool outside, inside my car it was uncomfortably hot. Then when I arrived at school, I was walking through the parking lot and heard barking. I saw a car, with all of the windows rolled up, and a small dog inside!
I thought that, if it were outside a grocery store or something, I might not be worried, because someone might be running a quick errand it wasn’t the dead of summer or anything. But at my school classes can go anywhere from two hours to five hours. I have heard that even on mildly sunny days, the temperature in a car can get dangerously hot for a pet, because there is no circulation and the windows sort of create a greenhouse effect in there. I went inside to my class and asked my botany teacher what she thought, and she said she thought it would be okay. I went outside and left a note on the car anyway. I don’t know… on one hand, just THE NOTE might have been an overreaction for a 70 degree day. On the other hand, maybe I should have done something even more drastic, like gotten security to find the owner of the car. What do you think?

Princess the Camel Picks Football games to raise awareness for animals in need.

Through the years, you might have heard us talk about Princess the Camel at the Popcorn Park Zoo.  Princess has been featured on our Web TV show, radio show and our site.  She is a special camel.  She was once owned by Doris Duke.  After Doris Duke’s death, the estate trustees started looking for a place for Princess to enjoy the rest of her days.

Popcorn Park never turns an animal, exotic or domestic away.  The Park is funded entirely by donations.  That’s why we love to feature the Popcorn Park Zoo whenever we can.  If you are ever in NJ, you don’t want to miss this very special place.

Hardly feels like October! Howloween?

Here it is, October 9 and we are supposed to be picking pumpkins, not going to the beach.  Today is is about 85 degrees here at the Jersey Shore and there is a steady stream of people headed to the beach.  Hope the water is still warm…because the bathrooms are closed.  Just sayin’.

Anyway, the girls wanted to start to get ready for Howloween, so we started trying on costumes.  We will share some of the antics with you.

Philomena as Snooki from Jersey Shore

Philomena as Snooki from Jersey Shore

We questioned if it was an age appropriate costume.  Snooki from the Jersey Shore for a Min Pin?We didn’t want to get all “Toddlers in Tiaras“.  Phil is only 5.  But wait, in dog years…that’s 35.  We’re good.

We would love to see your pet dressed up! Please share in our TPPC.tv Pet Lovers Crew on Facebook.
